Computing

The Department has a variety of computing facilities to assist our students' education and research.

Most of our labs have been outfitted with Dell OptiPlex GX280s, which sport an Intel Pentium 4 operating at 3.4 GHz and 1GB of system memory, paired with 17” flat panel displays. The Engineering Fundamentals machines have 19” monitors. Large format printing (posters, blueprints, etc) is available.

U203 has two printers for the students' use. One is a black and white laser, the other is a color laser, and both are capable of high-speed printing and high work load.

Undergraduate Labs are located in rooms U202, U203, and U204, of the M&M Building.

(The Graduate Student Computer Lab is located in 417A.)

Undergraduate Building: A separate two story section of the Minerals and Materials building, connected by a skywalk and underground tunnel, houses undergraduate classrooms and laboratories. These include a 250 seat lecture hall, smaller classrooms and lecture hall, and the Gary Shannette undergraduate library. Thermal processing, X-ray diffraction, and mechanical testing laboratories in the facility are dedicated for undergraduate use. Metallography laboratories include optical and stereo microscopes with digital imaging capabilities.
