Yun Hang Hu has received $302,650 from NSF for a three-year project, "Catalytic Activation, Spillover and Storage of Hydrogen on Transition-Metal/MOFs." The research concerns using metal organic frameworks for potentially cost-effective hydrogen storage and bringing the technology of hydrogen-based energy into high school classrooms Yun Hang Hu has received $302,650 from NSF for a three-year project, "Promoting Effects of Anions on Hydrogen Storage Reactions of Li-N-Based Materials." Mark Plichta has received a Research Excellence Fund Infrastructure Enhancement award of $50,000 for "Acquisition of a Nanorobotic System for the Manipulation of Nano- and Micro-Scale Materials in Scanning Electron Microscope." Mark Plichta has received $437,820 from UP Steel for a multiple-year project, "Process Optimization of Energy Efficient Steel Production." Miguel Levy received a grant from Multi-Scale Technologies Institute (MuSTI) for exploratory research funding in "Photon Fluids". Peter Moran received $65,000 from the University of Michigan (MIIE program) for "IME: A Proposal to the MIIE Industry and Economic Engagement Fund for Forming a Partnership Between Tellurex, Corp. and Michigan Tech to Engineer Materials for High-Efficiency Thermoelectric Power Generators." MIIE is Michigan Initiative for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The Department supports between 30-50 graduate students each year, mostly on Research Assistantships associated with externally-funded research programs. Funding levels have been between $1.5 - 2 million per year over the last 10 years. An partial list of funding agencies over the last few years includes:
