The MSE Department requires three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your academic and research performance. These letters should be mailed to the following address: The Graduate School Office Concerning our graduate program, each year we admit about 10 new students, depending on the available research funding. Most students who are admitted receive financial support ($17,000/year for PhD students and $14,400/year for MS students). In addition, the Department pays all tuition and fees. Further information about our program is available on the web sites listed above. We typically receive about 10 applications for each available position. Applications are evaluated based on previous academic performance, GRE and TOEFL scores, areas of interest, and three letters of recommendation. International Programs and Services maintains information about English Proficiency Requirements at Michigan Tech. Most successful international applicants have GRE scores in excess of 2,000. Online admission is free. Please note that we cannot evaluate your chances for admission without an official application. This includes the application form, fee only if applying with paper application, recommendation letters, and official scores from the GRE and TOEFL. Our Department does not receive your application from the Graduate School until the application package is complete. To guarantee full consideration, please plan to have your completed application delivered in full to Michigan Tech by January 1. Please plan ahead, and consider possible delays from international mailing and delays from the testing services. PLEASE NOTE THAT, DUE TO HEIGHTENED NATIONAL SECURITY CONCERNS, IT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER THAT YOUR APPLICATION IS RECEIVED ON TIME. Also note that it is becoming more and more common for visas to be rejected by US embassies in foreign countries. The committee meets in January, and if your application is not complete by then, your chances of being admitted are substantially reduced. You will be informed immediately by e-mail if you are admitted. An application fee is only required for paper applications. Mail all paper materials and fee to: The Graduate School Office If you need more information, or to check on the status of your application, please contact the Department Graduate Applications Administrator. |
